"Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed" (James 5:16a, NLT).The scripture is entreating us (Christians) to confess our sins to each other.
By inference, the practice can serve as a guide to keep a brother or a sister from sinning since we may not want to be confessing repeatedly. But this seems to be very difficult today, because a person you may confide in would not be able to keep a secret.
Sometimes its not as though, people don't want to talk or can't get anyone to confess to but the issue bothers on finding the right person to be trusted with such private issues.
People need healing deep inside and the church is supposed to be a hospital where people with these burdens could run to and be healed. Unfortunately, many people are rather hurt because the Church disappointed them.
As 2 Samuel 12 narrates, David was able to confess his sins to Nathan.
Perhaps if he was a member of some churches today, he would have been ostracized for what he did to Uriah. Confession is two-way; one to God and the other to a fellow brother/ sister.
Can you keep a secret? Let us learn to keep secrets. It brings healing.
