I encountered him firstly in the ministry of my big brother Danny Nettey of blessed memory. He was indeed very pivotal and instrumental while serving and has always been down to earth. One notable experience was when we had to team up to back Minister Alvin and Joy Slaughter doing his maiden concert in Ghana, put together by my Moba brother Bfa Bfa. Danny was the production consultant, and he made it abundantly clear that Nii Okai and the Harbour City Mass Choir needed to handle the choir work while his team served as the BVs and band.
It was indeed a foretaste of future events as it introduced us to the production gurus such as bro Sami Helwani among others. Those who served with me such as Dave Osabutey and MOGmusic would take turns to direct choirs later for Alvin Slaughter, Ron Kenoly Ministries (Official) while the likes of Denzel Prempeh and Joe Mettle would carry on with Danny Nettey’s grace for organizing worship events and production consultancy.
Today I choose to focus on Joseph Oscar Mettle, who has broken almost every glass ceiling and is still a great inspiration to both his seniors, peers and emerging generations. I observed with admiration as he stepped up to fill in the big shoes left by Elder Ken Appiah SoulWinners when he left for the US. His infectious grace for leading praise and indigenous music grew in leaps and bounds while still maintaining the contemporary gospel vibe because he would still make himself available whenever Danny Nettey called.
We started meeting at campus events where he would graciously come support the next generation when they hosted some of us, and that is when I first reckoned that God was preparing him for the coming generations. Joe has indeed cultivated lasting relationships that have grown with him and what we are witnessing today is no hype, but the ministry of a man greatly favored by God and man.
His people skills is to be studied and as for the grace, it ages with him. Our wives and children love Joe Mettle, and that should tell you something about his personality - not many ministers share same. The main challenge I have with Joe though is how he smuggled in a grey beard in his late thirties…
As you grace the 4th floor with your blessed life, I join the brethren in wishing you a Happy Birthday, and though we are missing Danny & KODA, we are excited about the new phase of your life and ministry. May the Lord continue to order your steps and shield you from kingdom opportunists and landmines.
Go labour on Minister Joe Mettle and may you win an Oscar for Jesus!
